Friendster, The Social Network Pioneer was founded by computer programmer Jonathan Abrams and Peter Chin in 2002 in Morgan Hill, California before the creation, launch and adoption of MySpace, Hi5, Facebook, and others.
At the beginning according to them:
Friendster is an online community that connects people through networks of friends for dating or making new friends.
You can use Friendster to:
- Meet new people to date, through your friends and their friends
- Make new friends
- Help your friends meet new people
Create your own personal and private community, where you can interact with people who are connected to you through networks of mutual friends. It’s easy and fun!

Now Friendster is about to change completely:
Friendster will be shifting from social networking site to a social entertainment site which will focus on gaming and music. The accounts are unchanged and still existing. However, all the photos, messages, comments, testimonials, shoutouts, blogs, forums and groups that the users may have now will no longer be part of the account by May 31, 2011.
